Chief Executive’s New year Message to Bridge Staff and Volunteers

Happy new year and welcome back those of you who’ve enjoyed a well earned Xmas break! This time of year is important for many in setting new goals and resolutions for the year to come but also it’s a time to reflect on where we are now and the distance we’ve travelled. Last month I noticed that there are now 92 colleagues on the Bridge payroll and it’s very rewarding to know that despite the difficult financial climate our charity has continued to flourish and we’ve never been stronger.

A Voice to Be Heard, by Sandra Minshull

A Voice To Be Heard: A new stance against the misprescribing and misunderstanding of long term Benzodiazapines– Sandra Minshull

At the age of 12 I was diagnosed with Graves disease. It was just after my 14th birthday I was told I would need a partial Thyroidectomy.

The day of the operation came (19th September 1974), I was scared, but at the same time I couldn’t wait to be well again. There was no warning about any possible damage. As I was coming round after the operation I heard voices but I couldn’t move or open my eyes. I would slip in and out of conciousness, there was a tube down my throat, and when I opened my eyes a nurse was telling me to breathe but I couldn’t. A doctor put an oxygen mask on my face, I managed to take a deep breath – I was able to breathe again.

A Welcome From the CEO

Welcome to the new Bridge website and what I hope is the first of a series of CEO blogs.

As we approach our 30th year in business as a charity I look back with pride on our achievements and forward with some trepidation about the future of our sector.
