Why I became a trustee
I felt very grateful for my life and had reached the stage in life where I wanted to ‘put something back’. At the time when I was approached by Bridge, I had no connection to Bradford and no connection to drugs (though I’d had an experience with depression and anti-depressant medication in my teens) but intuition just guided me to accept the invitation. Through my self-development journey I’ve come to see that we’re pretty much all on a healing journey from childhood trauma (me included) and perhaps being a Trustee is part of my journey.
A bit about me
By trade, I’m a chartered accountant and the founding partner of Sleigh & Story Chartered Certified Accountants, which I sold in a management buyout in 2020. My journey has taken me from accountant to transformational coach via coffee shop owner! I co-developed and part-owned ‘Big Shots,’ a coffee shop in the same building as Sleigh & Story.
My passion is coaching others and self-development. I’ve studied Neuro-Linguistic Programming extensively and achieved practitioner status. I have gone on to graduate in ‘Life Coaching and Small Business Coaching’ from the Coaching Academy and completed further training with Michael Neill in America to become an Advanced Transformational Coach. I now coach and mentor leading CEOs, including the CEO of Bridge.
As a trustee I..
I’m proud to have been a trustee of Bridge for over 15 years and chair of the board for the last 4 years. Stepping down from Sleigh & Story allowed me to dedicate time and focus to Bridge. I am continually inspired by the care, kindness, skill, and selflessness of my fellow trustees, the CEO, the leadership team, and the staff. Bridge is a wonderful organisation that does amazing work in the Bradford area and beyond, improving the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in society. I’m very proud to contribute in my small way!
